Inside The Teatro Theater, from Mark Howard’s Photo Book: Recording Icons

On January 13th 1997 Bob Dylan called Jim Dickinson to come join the gang in Miami. On January 14th he arrived.

(If you haven’t, go read our review of Whirly Gig - about Jim Dickinson
and the Time Out Of Mind Tapes - or better yet read the book.)

Is Jim Dickinson the reason that every outtake from FRAGMENTS from 1/14 or later has the TOOM sound? Are there tracks from these dates we haven’t heard that don’t have these characteristics?

I don’t know.

It seems likely he’s a part of it. It’s also clear from the tapes (and not surprising) that Dylan and Lanois were getting to where they wanted to go. All I know is that if you put all the songs from Jan 14 and later on a playlist, it sounds like a set of TOOM outtakes.
