Love it! Congratulations on your new adventure, Erin, and thanks for introducing us to Jason Nodler, a dude I deeply dig. As different as Dylan and Beckett are in a lot of ways, there's a kinship when it comes to the relation of intellect and feeling in art. I always think of that story about the American premiere of Beckett's play Not I, a breathless monologue by the character Mouth who speaks a stream-of-consciousness monologue as fast as possible. Performer Jessica Tandy wrote Beckett to ask if she might slow down her delivery, fearing that his beautiful words would be unintelligible to the audience if spoken at the relentless pace he called for. Beckett politely declined her request: "I am not unduly concerned with intelligibility. I hope the piece may work on the nerves of the audience, not its intellect." Translation: "How does it feeeeel?"

Congratulations, Erin! You are an excellent interviewer, and the production quality looks great. But more importantly, your insightful mind and expertise will make this broadcast an immense contribution to the Dylan podisphere!

If this first episode is any indication of what’s to come (and why wouldn’t it be) I will be getting more enlightened and enriched with each passing month. Erin is a skillful interviewer and Jason reframed the way I see–valuing personal experience and emotional responses over seeking fixed meanings. This lens opens new possibilities for understanding and appreciation–not only for art like Bob Dylan's music but for the broader spectrum of life experiences. It's a reminder that art, at its core, is a personal journey that is meant to evoke, challenge, and reflect rather than to offer clear-cut answers or meanings. It's a perspective shift for me, that reframes art's role as enhancing self-awareness and encouraging a deeper connection with my own feelings and reactions–who knew? More of this, please.

Congratulations! What a fantastic conversation. Jason described a hole in my reading that now needs to get filled. There were so many great moments, but one of the last was my favorite: I totally agree that no one is more punk than Dylan. Thanks for putting this out!

Erin, what an EXTRAORDINARY conversation! I'm so moved by the relationship between you two, that reaches deep into areas I seldom consciously visit, and can barely articulate. How to both illuminate and conjure the human experience, without prejudgment... these are huge challenges of the arts that use words! Whether the liberal arts, eg literature/poetry, or performing arts. As a chronic overthinker, I believe I fell madly in love with Dylan because he draws me into his (and my own) world through the opposite pole -- as Jason described it, his singing with abandon-- and uses his lyrics to paint inner worlds in non-logical ways, while still allowing me to scratch the itch of having words I can hold onto, and that give me chills. Now I'm very tempted to delete this, because it's too many words whose reach exceeds their grasp. But you and Jason were a magnificent example of how to make this illumination work. I can't wait to see where else you will lead us!
